project update

On November 23rd after school, the roots and shoots club hosted the showing of the animal awareness movie 'End of the Line'. Since this movie was targeted towards animal awareness..naturally the members of the 'animal group' were in charge of overseeing the planning of the movie showing. Being part of the animal group, I can truthfully report that the planning process went something along the lines of:
1) finding one day where there were no conflicting school events after school (SPORTS!)
2) trying to book the theatre
3) picking what movie to show
4) realizing that the time to the preset movie date was a little too ambitious, too short notice for the student body
5) rescheduling and rebooking the theatre
6) debating between a graphic movie/documentary which was sure to leave a big impact on viewers...or a more mild movie
7) discarded the graphic movie after a preview with members of the club (deemed too...graphic)
8) settling with 'End of the Line'
9) posters and getting the word out around the school and on the announcements
10) finally!! the movie showing!!!

9 tedious steps...in which I sometimes felt frustrated at our pace....yet now in hindsight, I'm grateful becuase I gained experience in planning such a large scale event
If we were to plan another movie showing in the near future, I think we could improve on communication between group members and the club in general - things could have gone smoother if we had been more prepared and knew ahead of time what days were free to host a movie and what days weren't, and possibly also getting the word out to the student body earlier

I was part of the audience viewing the movie on the 23rd - and all in all, I enjoyed the movie and learned about how I myself can contribute to the conservation of endangered aquatic species: by choosing my seafood wisely based off the Hong Kong Sustainable Seafood Guide (given at the movie showing).
